Section I: Installation Information
====================================

Please read the PowerBuilder Enterprise Installation Guide for
detailed information about installing the product set. This book is
available online at http://sybooks.sybase.com/. If you are installing
an upgrade version of a product set, please read Section II, Upgrade
Information, before running the Setup program.

This section highlights some installation requirements and issues and
contains additional installation notes.

Tools included in PowerBuilder Enterprise
-----------------------------------------
PowerBuilder Enterprise 8.0 contains the following products:

PowerBuilder 8.0 (Build 7039)
Jaguar 3.6.1 (Build 36108 plus some additional fixes)
PowerDynamo 3.5.2 (no build number)
Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1 (Build 918)
Sybase Online Books Version 4.1
InfoMaker 8.0 (Build 7039)

Important note for PowerJ users
-------------------------------
If you are a PowerJ user, Sybase recommends that you do not install
the Jaguar 3.6.1 build distributed with this release. This build has
not been certified for use with PowerJ and may cause loss of PowerJ
functionality. This incompatibility will be addressed in an upcoming
consolidated EBF release. The Jaguar 3.6.1 build distributed with the
EAServer 3.6.1 C1 release provides full support for PowerBuilder 8
with the exception of the following fixes:

CR 232684: The first PowerBuilder 8 component deployed to EAServer may not
deploy successfully. No errors are reported during deployment, but
attempting to generate proxy objects fails. Redeploying the component
fixes this problem.

CR 234360: The Jaguar client runtime does not include the
PowerBuilder 8 Web DataWindow component stub classes. As a result,
if you have only the Jaguar client runtime installed on the computer
where PowerDynamo is running, you may not be able to run Web
DataWindows. The workaround is to copy the required classes manually
to the PowerDynamo computer so that they can be found at run time.

CR 238509: The Jaguar server classpath must be modified to use the
new PowerBuilder JDBC database interface.

Adaptive Server Anywhere version
-------------------------------
This release includes Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1. If you have
already installed a later version of Adaptive Server Anywhere, do not
install Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1 from this CD.

Supported operating systems
---------------------------
This release has been tested on Windows 98, Windows 2000 with service
pack 1, and Windows NT 4.x with service pack 6a. These are the
supported operating systems for both development and deployment.

Required software
-----------------
If you want to use Web targets in PowerBuilder, you must have
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 installed on the development computer
before you run the Setup program. For your convenience, a self-
extracting executable for Internet Explorer 5.5 is provided in the
Support directory on the CD.

NOTE: The Microsoft Java VM must be installed on your computer if you
want to use Java applets and JavaBeans components in your Web pages.
The VM is not installed if you use the typical setup for Internet
Explorer 5.5. To install it, run the custom setup for Internet
Explorer 5.5 and select the Microsoft VM.

Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) 7.0.1 is also required for Web target
development. You can select Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1 from the
Select Components page in the Setup program.

If Internet Explorer 5.5 and Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1 are not
both installed on your system, you will not be able to use Web targets
functionality. If the installation program cannot detect Internet
Explorer 5.5 on your system, or if it cannot detect ASA 7.0.1 and
you have not selected ASA in the common install, you will receive a
warning. If you choose to continue, the installation will disable
Web targets functionality. If you want to use Web targets at a later
date, you will need to reinstall PowerBuilder 8.

Note that if you already have Internet Explorer 5.5 and ASA 7.0.1 on
your system and you do not want the Web targets functionality enabled,
you must do a custom installation of PowerBuilder 8.

Adaptive Server Anywhere is also required if you want to use the
EAS Demo database or PowerBuilder sample applications. If you do not
have any version of ASA installed, you will see a message during the
Jaguar CTS 3.6.1 installation that ASA 6.0 is not installed. Unless
you want to use the samples, you can ignore this message.

If you plan to migrate data from a PowerSite component manager
database, do not uninstall Adaptive Server Anywhere 6 before
installing Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1 (but install ASA 7.0.1 in a
separate directory). See "Migrating PowerSite projects" in the
PowerBuilder readme file.

Optional software
-----------------
Particular PowerBuilder features require installation of additional
tools.

For Web target deployment and debugging:

PowerDynamo 3.5.2 or later must be installed on your system
before you install PowerBuilder

For EAServer component and Web DataWindow development and deployment:

Jaguar CTS 3.6.1 C1 release or later

PowerDynamo 3.5.2 and Jaguar CTS 3.6.1 are included in the common
install and will be installed before PowerBuilder if selected.
Please verify that the path to the PowerDynamo installation is
included in your system path before using Web targets.

For data access using the PowerBuilder OLE DB interface and Web target
debugging:

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6

To install MDAC 2.6, run the MDAC_TYP.EXE file, which can be found in
the Support directory. Note that Internet Explorer 4.0.1 Service
Pack 2 or a later version of Internet Explorer must be present on your
computer when you run MDAC_TYP.EXE. If it is not, the installation
aborts.

Saving PowerSite project data
-----------------------------
The PowerSite product has been integrated into PowerBuilder for
this release. You can migrate existing PowerSite projects to Web
targets in PowerBuilder 8. See "Migrating PowerSite projects" below.

If you are installing PowerBuilder 8 on a development test computer
on which PowerSite has been installed, and you have data in an
existing Component Manager database that you want to use with the
Version 8 product, save your component manager database (pscmpmgr.db)
to a file with a different name. When you migrate a PowerSite project
to PowerBuilder 8, you can browse to the location of your existing
component manager database.

After copying the component manager database, you can safely uninstall
PowerSite on the test computer, but you are not required to do so. If
you want to migrate data from the PowerSite component manager
database, do not uninstall Adaptive Server Anywhere 6 until after the
data has been migrated.

Reboot during install
---------------------
The first time you run the Setup program for PowerBuilder, Setup
copies required Microsoft DLLs to your system and then reboots your
system before continuing the install. This ensures that the Microsoft
DLLs required to register PowerBuilder DLLs are available to the
PowerBuilder Setup program.

DCOM on Windows 98
------------------
You may be prompted to install DCOM for Windows 98 from the Support
folder even if it is already installed. DCOM is required if you use
Microsoft Data Access Components for OLE DB connections. It is also
required on both the development and server computers for remote
debugging a Web target. However, dcom98.exe is not provided in the
Support folder. If DCOM is not already installed on your computer,
you can obtain it from the Microsoft Web site. The current location
is http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp. If it is
already installed, you can ignore the prompt.

================================
Section II: Upgrade Information
================================

Installing an upgrade version
-----------------------------
If you are installing an upgrade version of PowerBuilder Enterprise,
a version of PowerBuilder Enterprise or EAStudio that includes
PowerBuilder 6.5.x or PowerBuilder 7.0.x must already be installed
on your system when you run the common Setup program.

Jaguar CTS
----------
If you are upgrading from a previous version of Jaguar, set up a
separate location for the new installation and retain the files from
your existing installation until you have successfully installed and
upgraded Jaguar.

The JaguarUpgrade utility copies any defined components, packages,
roles, connection caches, and servers from the old installation to
the new installation. For detailed information about upgrading from
a previous version of Jaguar, see the PowerBuilder Enterprise
Installation Guide.

PowerDynamo
-----------
If you install over a previous version of PowerDynamo, pre-existing
Web sites may no longer work. If this is the case, you will be
notified by a dialog box the first time you attempt to connect to a
site from Sybase Central. If a Web site does not need to be upgraded,
no dialog box will appear and you will be able to connect to the site
in the usual way.

IMPORTANT: Do not start the Personal Web server before completing the
following steps:

To update existing PowerDynamo Web sites to work with a new version:

1 Start Sybase Central.

2 Connect to a PowerDynamo database through Sybase Central.

3 A dialog box will open asking if you wish to upgrade your Web site.
Select Yes.

When a Web site is upgraded to a new version, in order to preserve
any system changes, the previous system folder is renamed to the word
system followed by the previous version number.

You will be notified of the new name for the old folder during the
upgrade process. Merge any system changes that you would like to keep
from the previous version into the newly created system folder. Once
changes have been merged into the new system folder, you may remove
the old system folder.

Once the above steps have been completed, your Web sites and
documents are ready for use with the new version of PowerDynamo.

NOTE: If you are using PowerDynamo 3.0, you must uninstall PowerDynamo
before installing this release. PowerDynamo 3.5.2 cannot be installed
over PowerDynamo 3.0.

Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1
------------------------------
Adaptive Server Anywhere includes new features affecting the database
server, client/server communications, administration utilities, and
synchronization setups using both SQL Remote and MobiLink. If you are
upgrading a previously installed version of ASA, read the Upgrade
Issues section in the Adaptive Server Anywhere Getting Started
manual.

================================
Section III: General Information
================================

EAServer editions
-----------------
This product set includes the Developer Edition of EAServer, which
can provide up to five Jaguar client connections. PowerDynamo is
limited to two outbound database connections per cache. EAServer is
available in three other editions: Small Business, Advanced, and
Enterprise. All three editions provide unlimited connections for
PowerDynamo. The Advanced and Enterprise editions provide unlimited
connections for Jaguar. To obtain a different edition of EAServer,
please contact your Sybase sales representative. If you purchased
your software from either a channel partner or a reseller, please
contact your partner or reseller.

Adaptive Server Anywhere Runtime
--------------------------------
The complete installation image of the Adaptive Server Anywhere 7.0.1
Restricted Runtime (for deployment purposes only) is provided in the
Support directory on the CD.

jConnect version
----------------
This product set includes jConnect 4.2 and jConnect 5.2. If you plan
to use the components of this product set with Adaptive Server
Anywhere (ASA) or Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) databases,
including databases that were previously prepared for jConnect 4.0,
you need to prepare the databases for jConnect 4.2/5.2 by installing
additional tables and stored procedures. You must repeat the
following steps for every ASA or ASE database that you want to
prepare for jConnect.

To prepare an ASA or ASE database for jConnect 4.2/5.2:

1 Start Interactive SQL and connect to your database.

2 Select File>Open and locate the appropriate SQL file stored in the
\sp folder under the jConnect folder of the jConnect version you
are using.

Use sql_anywhere.sql for ASA, sql_server12.sql for ASE Version 12,
or sql_server.sql for earlier versions of ASE.

3 Click the Execute button.

========================
Section IV: Known Issues
========================

ODBC and OLE DB providers
-------------------------
In the PowerBuilder and InfoMaker Setup programs, when you select
ODBC Database Drivers from the Select Component page in the wizard,
the description indicates that the Change button can be selected.
The Change button has been disabled. Now if you select ODBC Database
Drivers, all available drivers are installed. This also applies
when you select OLE DB Interface.

ASE uninstall
-------------
If you install ASE and PowerBuilder Enterprise on the same machine
and change the default installation directories to use the same
directory for both product sets, uninstalling ASE removes
PowerBuilder Enterprise installation directories. [CR 196435]

Uninstalling InfoMaker may remove system DSNs
---------------------------------------------
If you do not have any system DSNs defined before you install
InfoMaker, uninstalling InfoMaker will remove all your system DSNs,
including any you defined after installing InfoMaker. The workaround
is to create one or more system DSNs before you install InfoMaker.
If you do not, you need to recreate your system DSNs after
uninstalling InfoMaker. [CR 241300]

Tool-specific issues
